SIM card fraud is a growing concern in India, where fraudsters obtain SIM cards using stolen or forged identity documents, or telecom retailers issue multiple SIMs against one Aadhaar without the person's knowledge. This is used for financial fraud, harassment calls and other criminal activities.
To check how many mobile connections are registered against your Aadhaar or identity, visit sancharsaathi.gov.in and use the "Know Your Mobile Connections" (TAFCOP) feature. If you find SIM numbers you did not request, report them as "Not My Number" directly on the portal, which alerts the telecom operator to investigate and disconnect.
If you have lost money or suffered harassment due to SIM fraud, call the National Cyber Crime Helpline 1930 immediately (24 hours, toll-free). You can also file a detailed complaint at cybercrime.gov.in. For financial fraud, time is critical — banks can often freeze fraudulent transactions if reported within the golden hour.
To block a SIM you suspect is fraudulently active in your name, contact your telecom operator's customer care directly (Jio: 198, Airtel: 198, Vi: 199, BSNL: 1503) with your ID proof, or report through Sanchar Saathi. The Department of Telecommunications can also disconnect fraudulent connections under the Chakshu facility on sancharsaathi.gov.in, which lets you report suspected fraud communications.
