BMC (Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation), through its Hydraulic Engineering Department, is responsible for water supply across all 24 wards of Mumbai including South Mumbai, Western Suburbs and Eastern Suburbs. Common complaints include no water supply, low pressure, contaminated or discoloured water, main pipeline burst, water meter issues and water bill disputes.
To file a complaint, call the national water helpline 1916 (toll-free, 24/7) or BMC helpline 1800-228-369 (also called 1916 for BMC). For written complaints, email hydraulic@mcgm.gov.in with your Consumer Number (on your BMC water bill), address with ward name and a description of the problem. Complaints can also be registered at portal.mcgm.gov.in or on the MyBMC app. Note the complaint reference number.
BMC operates under the Maharashtra state framework and the Mumbai Municipal Corporation Act. Resolution timelines for water complaints are set by BMC internal service level agreements.
If BMC does not resolve satisfactorily, escalate to the BMC Commissioner's office or file with the Maharashtra State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission through edaakhil.nic.in. You can also use CPGRAMS at pgportal.gov.in under Government of Maharashtra.
